Fishing In Idaho

Idaho is famous for its fishing. More than 10 world-class blue-ribbon wild trout streams, including the Henrys Fork, Silver Creek and the St. Joe River, are scattered throughout the state. Many other high-quality trout streams exist that don’t get the headlines and the crowds.

Idaho’s rugged mountains contain more than 1,500 high mountain lakes with good trout fishing. Numerous large natural lakes and reservoirs provide a wide variety of fishing opportunities for warm and cold-water species. In contrast to some states, most Idaho fishing waters are located in the public domain, and are open to the public. Access is free.

2012 Fly Fishing Casting Classes

We have posted our 2012 Fly Fishing & Casting Classes on the website, <a www.DreamCastIdaho.com  If you have completed one of our classes we would encourage you to go to the next level. If you are thinking about getting started in this sport our Beginning Fly Fishing Classes are designed just for you. In fact you can get started right now by watching our Fly Fishing Knots videos.

Our Intermediate classes will take you into the real joys of fly fishing by giving you the ability to cast dry flies in different situations, and we will develop your skills in nymphing and streamer techniques, and show you how to mend, and manage your fly line.

Our Advanced casting classes will really fine tune what you already know. Then you will develop new techniques like the single hand spey casts for those really difficult situations. This is also a workshop designed to help you master those casts you have heard about but not sure how to do.

In our Casting the Spey Classes we will get you started in developing these techniques called spey casts. Weather you use a switch rod, or a traditional spey, our two day classes will have you casting a long tight line.

Our Private classes are designed around you. If your going on your first bone fishing trip, or to Alaska for silvers, or just wanting to learn a new cast we can help. Over the years we have developed many tools to help you correct those faults you may have. We all have them, thats why I go to several workshop a year my self. They help me be a better instructor, and fisherman.

We hope you will consider taking one or more of our classes this year, we would really enjoy meeting you. So check out the website for more information and give us a call with any questions you may have.

Info on Owyhee River Regulation Changes for 2013

I would like to bring to your attention that the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is currently taking public comment concerning changes to the ODFW regulations for 2013, they do this every four years.  If the fishing community in Idaho and Oregon want to voice their concerns about the OwyheeRiver ( from the mouth to the dam in Oregon) and hopefully initiate changes to improve the fishery this is the opportunity.  There are four major areas that need to be addressed as follows:
1.  Catch and release for all species.
2.  Close the river from October 15th to January 1st to protect the spawning cycle and the health of the fish.
3.  Single barbless hook for all fisherman.
4.  Elimination of bait fishermen to reduce the mortality rate of the trout species.
If these concerns (in total or in part) could be addressed in the 2013 ODFW Fishing Regulations the fishing experience would greatly improve.  To get this done we need your help!

Mr. David Kesey of Ontario, Oregon is preparing a formal proposal to submit to ODFW no later than the end of February 2012.  This is part of the state process to make these changes.  He needs our help to impress ODFW that the people who fish the Owyhee are in favor of these changes. He can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for further information. The best way to help is to go to owyheeriverfishing.blogspot.com and leave a message about your concerns and views, good, bad or indifferent. He will then take these to the fish biologists that are responsible for the Owyhee River in hopes of convincing them to make the changes.  Also, if you would like to contact the two state fish biologists personally, they can be reached at the following:  Shannon Hurn, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. --  Please take a few moments and contact the departments highlighted with your comments.

Thank You

White Fish Derby 2012

Hello BVFFers,

I spoke with Fish and Game today and we are good to go for Saturday Feb 25th at the SF of the Boise.
Tourney start time will be 10am and running until 3pm - with a 3:30pm weigh in time.

Let's spread the word - tell your friends, family etc.

Also, will need a few folks to handle the BBQ this year.  Pretty sure both the guys that won last year are not members - so a couple folks will need to step up and coordinate that!

Thanks!
Tom
